Kolins Travels
Well Phi Phi has to be my favourite Island its so relaxed in some parts its untrue!. I initially stayed on Long Beach away from the main "town". The weather here has been scorching.
I met Mark, Albie and Seth on the way over and we took a longtail boat over to Phi Phi Lee where The Beach was filmed. I also got ambushed by monkeys on Monkey Beach ( funny enough) whilst trying to feed them crisps but they soon had the packet off me! Some american girls turned up with lots of bananas and they got set upon too - one of the tried to use me as a human shield! Doing a lot od swimming here and the snorkeling is really good too.
At night there are loades of fire shows - my favourite bar was Hip pies - also got my first Thai hair cut here - the hair dresser almost spoke English!
I climbed to the top of Phi Phi Don to experience the view point - this is well worth the trek and walked down the other side through the jungle to Ranti Bay - a very seclueded little beach.
I couldn't resist the tempation of diving here as its supposed to be in the top 10 diving sites. I dived at Did Nok and Bida Nai - 2 Islands just off from Phi Phi Lee. Visibility was about 20 metres and I saw my first Leopard Shark as well as Sting Rays, File fish, Lion Fish, Scorpion fish as well as Clown Fish ( The Nemo fish). Underwater there were swim through arch ways of rock and coral.
I also did a Wreck dive - The story goes that 85 m long King Cruiser stayed off its usually course on a routine run and hit Anemone Reef in the Amdaman sea - sounds like an insurance job to me! Now Phi Phi has its own Wreck Dive - what a coinsidence! I have never been around so may fish in my entire life - they seemed to all have made the wreck their home. The middle of the cruiser was caved in and you can swim in the cargo hold. Travelly were everywhere. My final Phi Phi dive was Shark Point where I got to see turtles, sea snakes and of course sharks. Sharkpoint is a limestone pinnacle with gardens of hard and soft coral - some forming sea fans. The only way I can think to describe this wonderland is "purple broccolli coral!"
