Chris writes. Hi all. Hope life is good for you all as we feel just so guilty(but not for long)for having so much fun and great times .
This was our first day waking up in Kings Canyon Resort,(a really well laid out and tidy motor camp nestled amongst some shady gum trees ). The weather has been fab. with the temp around 25 deg. and clears skies. Had a few drinkies with neighbours outside last night swapping travel stories and experiences . Most Ozzies have either been to NZ or are planning to go !
Today we went to Kings Canyon and I did the canyon top rim walk while Steph did the river walk as the first climb was very steep . I rate this as one of the best walks I have done with breath taking scenery and amazing rock formations.
I imagine it to a smaller version of the Grand Canyon with a much easier walk of just 3-4 hours.Don't know if I would want to do it in the Summer months though as there was a lot of ups and downs climbing in and out of small gorges but really worth the 169km (338km return)detour from the main road ! The camp gets visited by Dingos after dark and we had a couple come very close to us while sitting outside last night, a very interesting experience !!!
They howl a lot during the night and we were warned not to leave anything that could be carried away around our van at night. ( definitely no babies !!! )
We both love this desert life style and the temp.
Later in the afternoon we went on a walk down a road and were watched by a couple of dingos from the roadside bushes . There are signs around camp warning of dingos showing aggressive behaviour saying if approached to slowly walk away (but don't run ! ). I have not seen dingo burgers on offer but if I had a gun I could be tempted to make my own !!!
We went over to the BBQ bar for dinner which has live entertainment each night ( a hard case Auzzie on the guitar ) and a good selection of meals. As I had ridden a camel and enjoyed wild ones crossing over the road in front of us, I declined the chief recommendation of a yummy camel burger and settled for a nice Angus steak and barramundi meal. The neighbours joined us again for a glass of wine and a good chat to finish another awesome day.
I rate Uluru and Kings Canyon as the highlights of our trip so far which will take a lot of beating , although we have lots more to look forward to heading up to the top of the northern territories . There is no cell phone or tv reception here so you have to ( make your own entertainment ! ) so will publish this blog when we can. Well it's off to bed now listening to the chorus of dingo howls sending us off to sleep .
Nighty night and sweet dreams .
