Winter break is just around the corner! Three days away in fact.
Yesterday I was supposed to move, since the housing seems to have decided that it would be a brilliant idea to do so right before finals, rather than after. This however didn't happen , so instead I had a very nice day with friends. Starting off with sending Christmas presents to Finland, and getting that over with, followed my a magnificent chocolate chip cookie.
On my way to Don Quijote shopping center, the bus driver informed us that there is a change in the bus routs that same evening due to the City Light Parade.
Sue to this new piece of information, we still go to the shopping center... It's just that we end up buying Santa hats...
So, with our new Santa hats on our heads we jump back on the bus, and venture on to downtown Honolulu, where the parade is to pass through. We get there and sit down at the curb with a ton of other people and wait for the parade to pass. Luckily we didn't have to wait for long, as soon we hear some drums in the distance. Little did we know, that the spot we had decided to seat ourselves at, was right after the parade area. Literally. The parade people came along nicely, and 10-15 meters before they would be at an ideal distance to view, they stop and start to pack up. Right there! Naturally the crowd has now started to move, in hopes of getting close enough to see the actual parade, and we follow along. Though I have to say, it seems as though we were having a very lucky day, since we ended up getting front row seats, so to speak. We didn't get to see all of the extravaganza, but we did get to see most of it, which was really nice.
The majority of the parade was high school marching bands, and some of them were really impressive with choreographed movement and everything. Even so, I loved the people who were in costumes. Especially this guy.
Whoever made that reindeer costume, is talented. I can't even make a balloon dog.
It is sort of wierd listening to Christmas carols and seeing Santas and reindeer while being dressed in a Santa hat, shorts, and a t-shirt. But I find it quite nice. I have also found myself enjoying all the Christmassiness now that I don't have to stress over Christmas presents and what nots all the way till the 24th... :D
