This Thanksgiving has been quite eventful.
Naturally, it started off with Thanksgiving on Thursday, which almost turned in to a disaster, as everyone was very bad at planning or being decisive. However, in the end, after a ton of texting and calling, me and three friends of mine (one of whom I had just met that very day), ended up going out for dinner. We went to a place that i believe was called Tony Roma's, and I got my very much craved for stake. Now, I know that you're supposed to have turkey on thanksgiving and all that. But let's face it, none of us knew how to prepare one, and the Tony Roma's is a stake house. So we had stake. Well, two of us had stake. Also, there was a pretty sunset (See picture).
Friday we didn't have school, so me and two friends from the day before, decided that we wanted to go to the zoo and the aquarium. Being the fishcrazy person that I am, I was like a complete five year old, when we went to the aquarium. We saw a ton of really cool fish where of my favorite probably is this one...
The Longnose Hawkfish. I don't actually know anything interesting about this one, it just looks really cool!
Other cool fish we encountered are...
The Unicornfish. And...
The Humuhumunukunukuapua'a. Which is Hawaiian for "triggerfish with a snout like a pig". So that's a thing. Maybe I'll one day see one in the Ocean as well. :D
Moving on to the zoo, I have to admit to not having been as interested in the animals there. But hey, I chose Marine Biology for a reason. :) Still, apes and birds can be pretty cool too. Like this one.
It looks like a Hawk-Flamingo hybrid, right! Nope, apparently it's a Secretary Bird. It looks a lot cooler than it sounds. I feel like we should re-name it. It deserves a more awesome name that that.
Finishing off our day, we went to see the new Disney animated movie Frozen (because you can never bee too old for Disney). It was actually really good! I was really entertained by it, and I loved the music. Also, they got Idina Menzel to be the voice for Elsa, which was fantastic. If you have no idea who Idina Menzel is, she was the original Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway. Oddly enough, Elphaba and Elsa are very similar characters.
Moving on.
Yesterday (Saturday), we woke up early to catch an early bus to North Shore. The bus ride is eternal, about 2 hours long, but none of us had a car, so we didn't exactly have a choice. On our way north, we stopped at the Dole plantation for some pineapple ice cream. If you aver come to Oahu, you have to try it out!
It is delicious.
We also ended up doing the maze, which is the worlds largest maze. The point of the maze is to find six different spots, and then find your way out. It took us about an hour to complete, though it might have taken us longer if we didn't have the mini-map, and people wouldn't have created so many shortcuts there. Though in our defense, we tried not to use them, but some of them were so big that it looked like a path...
So, once the maze was completed I bought some candy, and we continued our journey to North Shore. We left at 7.45 in the morning, and by the time we got all the way to our destination, it was already noon. Lunch. We stopped by a little Italian style place called Spaghettini.
They have really good garlic bread! The spaghetti with meatballs was good too.
Originally we wanted to go swimming, but it was quite chilly (for Hawaii), and super windy and cloudy, so we ended up going to check out a surf competition that was going on at Sunset Beach.
It was fun to watch, though it mainly reminded me of how I have not been surfing yet. And I've been here for three months.
Afterwards we went for some pie, and then ventured on back home. Now, if the 2 hour trip up here wasn't agonizing enough, the trip back was way worse. We waited for half an hour before our bus finally came, only to ride on it for another half and hour and find out, we were going in the wrong direction. Thank goodness for smartphones! With it's help, we managed to find our way to the right bus stop, and on to the right bus (which we had to wait for another 20 minutes). About 10 minutes later, my friend notices she couldn't find her keys, so she has to go back to try and find them. By then it was already pretty late, and I had agreed to go study with a friend down in Waikiki, so I stayed on the bus, while my friends got off to search for the keys (which were never found).
Apart from the unfortunate incident with the bus ride back, it was a nice trip. I do love the North Shore.
This leaves me with today. With all that has been going on for the past three days, all of my homework has piled up. And that is what I have been doing all day.
