UNITED KINGDOM - DAY 15
Headed out this morning to catch the Golden Tour Hop On Hop Off Bus. We thought we had the right bus stop but discovered we were at the wrong one. Anyway an hour later we finally boarded the bus and headed into the city to start seeing the sights.
We went straight to the Tower of London. We joined a Yeoman guide Steve, otherwise known as a Beefeater who took us on a fabulous tour around the tower telling us lots of interesting stories of blood, betrayal, torture, death, to name but a few. He was brilliant. Kept it light and entertaining and still managed to impart a lot of history. We then headed into the Wellington building to view the crown jewels. They were amazing. The precious and semi-precious stones used in the different crowns were mind blowing and the diamond used in the sceptre that is 530.something carats, WOW! It was the size of a duck egg. It is amazing to think of one family having so much money while there are countries starving. We thought that if they sold one of the many crowns, it would provide food etc to a third world country for a year or more. We were really lucky as it was the Queen's birthday so the Yeoman were in their dress uniforms. They also fired the cannons to celebrate the number of years the Queen has been on the throne. We counted 25 before we headed into a shop and were told that there was suppose to be over 60.
After leaving the Tower we headed to the London Dungeon. A poor second to the London Tombs. It wasn't scary and was way more crowded. Poor Angelique was too short to go in the final part of the ride which was where the floor falls away and you drop into it. She was not a happy camper.
That evening Pasqual and I headed out to a West End show - 'We Will Rock You', a musical using the music of Queen. It was wonderful. We loved every minute of it. Funny, great music, dancing, singing it was brilliant. After the show we wandered home. London was still alive with people everywhere and so many restaurants etc still open. Grandad kindly minded the girls for us and had a quiet night in.
