ITALY - DAY 8
We had the whole morning in Sorrento to shop and wander until our excursion to a traditional Italian farm for lunch.
We were taken to a wood demonstration where they inlay wood to make pictures. It was interesting. They truly are masters at this because they are working with such fine and small pieces of wood. It as like a jigsaw puzzle that they had to put together. Each piece they make is unique. They may have the same picture, but the colours in each picture will be slightly different. It was all very nice but very expensive.
We left the wood showrooms and wandered around Sorrento, window shopping before making our way back to the bus for our lunch date on the farm.
We expected to be taken out of Sorrento and into the hills for this but within five minutes we had arrived. The farm was in the suburbs of Sorrento. We walked down the path, past cows, geese, and various fruit trees and other plants before coming to a large patio where we sat down to enjoy lunch. The food was delicious. Everything that we ate had been grown or made on the farm from the wine to the cheese to the meat. It was very simple but wonderful.
After filling our bellies we then watched Maria demonstrate how mozzarella cheese is made. She made it look very easy. Then we had a bit of a competition. Four of the group members where selected (Pasqual was one) to make pizza. They were all given an apron (we won't say anything about what was on the front - I'm sure you can work it out for yourself) and shown how to knead the dough, add topping and place it into the pizza oven. It was all in fun and everyone had a great time laughing at the antics of the four contestants.
Finally we were given two samples of lemon alcohol. Both were nice, felt it all the way down to the stomach. We purchased the cream version, then headed back to the hotel in the bus.
