We've been in Melaka for nearly a week now. Its lovely here theres everything you could need and we have a cosy little room in Chinatown. Chinatown here seems a lot nicer than the others we have been to in Malaysia. We've settled in nicely and made it our temporary home.
Our first day we went to see the sights around the Old Quarter. There are some beautiful buildings here - churches (St Peters Church and Christ Church), mosques and an old fort built by the British Colony.
Theres a huge shopping mall in the middle of everything. The clothes, shoes, electronics are so cheap here (just like everywhere in asia really) and theres a cinema at the top of the shopping centre so we treat ourselves again to a movie ('hes just not that into you') it cost less than £2 each !! Not like our cinemas , such a rip off.
Our guesthouse is right opposite the Kampung Hulu mosque which is unique to Malaysia. However it can be very noisy during prayer time as they have megaphones broadcasting at early hours (like yesterday at 5 in the morning).
The evenings round Chinatown are quite quiet during the week, but on the weekend its the complete opposite. Lots more restaurants open and theres a street market, a lot of tourists from neighbouring countries like Singapore come to visit.
Really enjoyed relaxing in Melaka but tomorrow we move on to the bustling country/city of Singapore!!!!
Hopefully immigration wont take two hours this time....
