After saying goodbye to Jochen (as we were heading different ways) we got on a local bus to the capital Kuala Lumpur.
The journey took 5 hours. When we arrived we booked into a hotel Oasis which was cheap and clean and in the Chinatown district.
Chinatown is very similar to Khoa San Road in Bangkok. We walked through the massive market and stumbled across a bar called the Reggae Bar. We bumped into Tom (the guy who we met on the night boat from Koh Tao) and a guy and girl who were on our bus earlier that day (the bus nearly drove off and left them in a little town, but that's another story!!).
Tom told us about a festival at the Central Market where he was meant to be meeting some friends. The festival was amazing it was a Sikh festival called Vaisakhi with lots of dancing and souvenirs being handed out. At one point they got lots of kids on stage and one of the boys was really good like a little asian Justin Timberlake. They also tried to get us foreigners on stage but we all bottled it…
At the festival Tom introduced us to 3 Northern girls and a girl from Denmark. We all went back to the Reggae bar which was now packed and with R&B tunes blaring out!! Party time…after dancing and drinking really expensive drinks we headed to McDonalds for a takeaway! Haha!
The next day we slept in till lunch time. We got a taxi to the lake gardens which were beautiful and really well maintained. It was really strange being in such a tranquil place in the middle of this big bustling city. At the park they had a Deer park which also had Mouse-Deers which are literally a across between a Deer and a Mouse (they could have come up with a more inventive name we thought). We sat and watched the Deers going about their day for ages, it was really relaxing and the sun was shinning…for now! We kept spotting all kinds of wildlife, our favourites were the massive lizards and the jumping kamikaze squirrels!!
Just as the rain began we took the monorail to the Menara Tower or the KL Tower which is the fifth tallest communication tower in the world. We cut through a park but had to take shelter as the rain and fork lighting got worse. Once we got to the tower we took the lift up to the observation platform which is 276 m high it took 58 seconds exactly and our ears popped a hundred times. The views were amazing….but so they should after spending 16pounds to go up there…ouch! Going back down the tower our ears popped even more.
The next day we took the monorail to the Petronas Towers (the tallest twin buildings in the world). These towers were huge and are connected half way up. They release so many free tickets a day to go up but we didn't get up in time (but the KL Tower where we went the day before takes you a lot higher).
We then went to the KL Aquarium which was really good fun, maybe as good as the Deep in Hull!! We got to stroke a Bamboo Shark and hold a Starfish…don't worry it was a non-poisonous one or so they told us. Some of the fish, especially the Rays were massive and mesmerizing to watch.
We then walked round the KLCC Suria Mall which is at the foot of the Petronas Towers and ended up in a PC Convention (boring for Beth exciting for me). Nearly got a new camera and a laptop but luckily had left my credit card at the hotel. We took it as a sign we couldn't afford it.
We then got the monorail back to Chinatown and treat ourselves to some genuine fake perfume (they were 2pounds each). That evening we had an awesome Chinese meal followed by rain for dessert!!!
Day 4 we got up early (well before 10am) and posted some more parcels back to Nana Ridleys as our bags are getting to heavy! We then got the monorail to Sunway Lagoon….
Sunway Lagoon is a water park and amusement park. I dragged Beth on all the slides and rides, one of the slides you had 2 person tube and its almost vertical and you go down then up and then come backwards down (hard to explain but scary). Earlier on this slide we saw a kid being stretchered off which made me want to go on it even more….hope he's ok!!
After getting dried off and getting changed out of our bikinis we stupidly went on the log flume and got absolutely drenched again!! Oops!
We then went on a rollercoaster called the Lost City of Gold and we were they only 2 people on it which was weird but more fun.
They were two Bengal Tigers in a cage way to small for them and we watched them get fed.
After all the excitement we decided to go relax at the cinema and watch the new Friday 13th film….started of really bad as there was no sound only Malaysian subtitles so got up and complained. 10 minutes into the film the sound came back on. It was strange as they kept cutting certain swear words out and any remotely naughty scenes even though the film is an 18+. But they kept the part where the policemen got a screwdriver through his eye and the bit where a guy got his leg trapped in a animal trap and all his bones were on show!! Nice!
What an awesome day!
Our next destination is Melaka…
