After a 7 hour bus trip from Luang Prabang we ended up in Vang Vieng a small village which has been turned into a big party. Every bar plays Friends, Simpsons and Family Guy at high volume during the day. At night everyone heads to The Smile Bar where you can buy cheap "Buckets" and "Happy Shakes" (or even "happy garlic bread" if you know what i mean!!!)
The only thing really to do in Vang Vieng is Tubing, which basically means getting drunk and floating down the river on a rubber tube. Each bar has either a swing or zip-line and the last bar (the best bar) has a massive waterslide. Its so dangerous which makes it more fun...i'm sure you'll agree mum(s).
The first time we went Tubing there were about 15 of us (all the people we had met on the slowboat) and we all went from bar to bar together started at about 10.30am. The sun goes down at 3.30pm and you have to have the tube back by 6pm. Once the sun goes down it gets really cold and in the last bar they light a massive fire which probably isn't the greatest idea with drunk westerners wobbling around. All in all great fun!
We decided to go Tubing again, but without the tubes (not really Tubing...just getting a bit merry) as its cheaper and you can walk/swim between the bars. As we were walking to one of the bars we saw a sign for a cave so we decided to take a look. After a hard 15 minute walk up the cliff (more like a climb) we got to the entrance where we were handed a torch each. Inside it was pitch black and we were the only people in there and it was well worth the climb. Was quite scary when we switched our torches off and we couldn't see our hands in front of our faces and all you could here were drops of water.
We also went for a walk to some other caves but luck wasn't with us, first Beths flip-flop broke and then when we got there the cave had closed. But we did get chased by some cows (long story haha).
We're now in Vientaine and there isn't much to do here so will be leaving very soon we think and heading south.
Haha was so funny at the Smile Bar... Me and Dom were teaching the dutch lads Hull slang !! (why they wanted to speak like us was beyond me) They now have a slight Hull accent and are saying words like 'tenfoot' and 'now then''instead of Hello!!! Oops!
