- here we sit waiting for the ok to go flying. For any travellers who've visited Milford Sound you will know weather is the deciding factor! Our plans are to fly to the Sound, board a sight seeing boat, and then fly back, so fingers crossed the update at 11 will allow the trip to go ahead as planned. For the eagle eyed you will see we've changed our plans. The 'glampervan' is in Christchurch all locked up and awaiting our return tomorrow. We decided that to make the most of this area as the drive would be too much. The flight was an hour and Queenstown, as Andrew said y'day, is lovely to explore on foot. We return to Chirstchurch tomorrow and will retrace our steps North to the ferry.( the photo is Jess and Dru just before they go on the luge, the people in the back ground are fellow lugers)
Ok, we went to Milford Sound and what a fabulous day it was. The plane seated 6 of us and that included the pilot who was dead young - maybe I am just showing my age! A 30 min journey in the air and then 1.30 tour on a sightseeing boat. From waterfalls, to basking seals and rock formations you could only imagine or see in books, the day was fab. The flight home was interesting as 10 mins from home the pilot told us the alternator was not working and his communication would be limited . He was then seen using his mobile phone and I thought mobile phones affected navigation systems? 'don't panic', sprung to mind as Andrew is in the front with the pilot and I have Jessica asleep on my lap. Out came the paper version of ' how to land without a radio', omg I thought, ' we're doomed'. Doomed we were not, we landed and how pleased were we to be down on terra firma.
So tomorrow it's back to Christchurch and glampervan land ....

Lesley Just catching up on your blogs. So glad you are having an amazing time. Our flights in and out of Milford Sounds are some of the most memorable of my life - for all the wrong reasons. I don't recall plummeting out of the sky and banging my head on the overhead being part of my wishlist...........glad yours was a little less eventful!! xx
