After a 9 days away we are still both sneezing and coughing and putting it down to the air conditioning. Smoking hasn't been as bad a problem as expected which is good for me.
Our hotel in Kusadasi is a resort and absolutely packed with English, Germans, Russians and Belgians. They get cheap packages that includes breakfast and dinner for less than half of what Turkish people would pay.
We have a laugh as in the morning they line up for half an hour before the towel desk opens, they grab their towels race to a prime spot lounge and then go off to breakfast I suppose. All the chairs are taken with towels but no one sitting on them. The amount of food served each morning and night is unbelievable, you can have eggs or omelettes cooked for you or cereals, salads, fruits, yoghurt, ten different breads, pastries, tomato and cucumber, tea and coffees.
We headed off to Ephesus to do our tour early before it was too hot.
The restored ruins at Ephesus are amazing and it is surprising to see the enormous size of the site. Our guide Gozin knows so much of the history of the historical sites and explains it so well to keep us interested. The Terraced Houses which are being restored were the homes of the rich Romans and you can see all the decorative mosaics that are being put together. Highlights were the Temple of Hadrian and the Library of Celsus. We also visited the House of the Virgin Mary who is said to have come here after the Crucifixion with John the Apostle. I wonder how they came to be in such an isolated place?
Lunch was gozleme served Turkish style sitting on the floor with low tables.
We had a free afternoon and following day in Kusadasi which we all enjoyed relaxing, swimming and exploring the town.
