We arrived in Helsinki at 7am and although they told us it was too far to walk, lots of people were doing it so we decided to do it too. It took about half an hour to get down to the waterfront where it was very busy. The is a market everyday selling local fruit and vegetables one of the most popular items seems to be the berries especially strawberries but at 6 euros for a large punnet they seem expensive. The is also lots of local fresh fish for sale and lots of stalls cooking up fish, the local herrings and calamari. There is also lots of stalls selling reindeer products, fur and items made from their horn. I asked about the and the young stall holder said that up further north they are considered a pest. Finland had been part of Sweden for 400 years when King Gustav I founded Helsinki in 1550 to compete with expansion by Russia
