Toledo was once the capital of Spain until ------ and was a mixed city of Christians, Jews, and Muslims. It was a beautiful city and a great site to walk around for the afternoon.
The cathedral at Toledo, called the Primate, or- wait for it- the Cathedral of Toledo, was a breathtaking cathedral of the gothic style. No pictures inside, but it was astonishing in its size, scale, and grandeur. The choir section had battle scenes from the Reconquista (the reconquering of Spain from the Moors) carved on every seat. Also, two of the seats are secret doors, which Erika noticed when a maintenance worker vanished and appeared upstairs. It always amazes me that even as a non-religious person, cathedrals like this inspire in me such a sense of awe and majesty. Also, It occurs to me that my house does not have enough secret doors.
The streets of Toledo are narrow, and cobblestone. It has a charm of a city that feels like it's a thousand years old, which it is, I guess. It's a beautiful city that captures the feeling of old Spain. Everywhere you look, there are old stone buildings, arches with a Moorish design, royal symbols. Also swords. Toledo is famous for swords, and absolutely every store in Toledo sells souvenir swords to tourists with too much money. Personally, I am not one of those. Anymore. But, I am the proud new owner of a sweet sword.
