Left for Granada this morning, after another good breakfast. Drive takes about 5 hours through the Spanish countryside. At the moment, we're going through La Mancha, home of Don Quixote. It's a beautiful countryside, arid farmland mostly. Every once in a while, we drive past buildings that seem abandoned, sometimes complete farms and villas. Some foundations of old brick buildings, or mills that look hundreds of years old. Sergio says that most people, especially young people, have moved to the cities, rather than working in the fields, leaving many farms abandoned. Even still, Spain is the world's largest producer of olives and olive oil, and we see hundreds and thousands of olive trees. A very nice ride through the countryside.
Stopped for lunch at a rest stop. There were 5 types of sandwiches, 4 of which were ham. Also, I counted 4 different types of ham flavored potato chips. Smoked ham for breakfast as well. Spaniards love them some ham.
A big attaboy to Sean for asking Jess to prom via the pa system on the bus. When a girl dares you to do something, and immediately wishes she hadn't, you got to follow through.
Approximately 30 zillion olive trees on the road to Granada. Literally as far as the eye can see in every direction for hours on end.
Very mountainous area in the south of Spain. Huge, rocky outcroppings. Olive trees everywhere that there appears to be dirt. I'm having trouble figuring out how they harvest them all. Cool to see little villas in the middle of all the olive trees. I have fun imagining all the different variations on olives that they must eat.
