Huacachina is a tiny village sat around a lake in the Peruvian desert south of Lima consisting of no more than 50 or so buildings. The majority of our time was spent sandboarding (basically snow boarding on sand dunes) which was great fun but extremely tiring as we had to walk up big sand dunes all day in the desert sun. We both got the hang of it after a couple of days and picked up many bruises along the way as well as each of us wiping out once (Ashley's was caught on video while Tim's, which unfortunately wasn't, left him with a jarred neck!)
There was little else to do in Huacachina so we visited Peru's largest bodega (winery) in the nearby town of Ica one afternoon (it was too hot to sandboard between midday and 3pm!) We had a very interesting tour of the bodega, being shown the whole proces of wine and Pisco (Peruvian grape brandy) making from vine to bottle. To Ashleys delight we also got to taste a selection of their wines and their Pisco - unfortunately it was given to us straight rather than in a Pisco Sour, Peru's most famous cocktail.
After our bodega visit we went back to Huacachina to sandboard one last time.
