Our first day back in Cusco was spent relaxing and recovering from the inca trail. After a long lie in (8am was a late wake up compared to the last week!) we spent the morning relaxing and checking into a hostel before heading to an english pub with 2 of our trail friends to continue our recouperation with pies, tea and other english delights that had been sorely missed, and a 4 hour game of monopoly!
The next day we decided to go quad biking in the afternoon across the surrouning hills which proved to be both fun and funny, and scary when Ashley decided to test the 4x4 ability of the machines by careening off the road at just about the only point that wasnt edged by a straight drop and into a ditch. Thankfully both came out unharmed and after a thorough inspection of the bike the guides seemed ok with Ashley continuing to drive. We continued for a couple of hours getting to drive up steep slopes, through water and over small jumps before having to return at considerable speeds to escape the incoming thunderstorm (to Robin & Sarah - deja vu of being with Jeff!!).
Having thoroughly enjoyed the quad biking we decided to book up a white water rafting trip for the day after also with our Irish friends. The rafting was a new experience to the both of us and was through rapids of grades 1-4 out of 6, meaning that they got quite rough and very wet and as we had a 5 year old in our boat, also very difficult to control. The rapids were great fun and the weather was wonderful as we were blessed with clear skies and baking heat and after two very wet hours in the raft we were considering booking up a second trip but decided to wait until later in our trip if we still have money. Feeling very tired and achey after a week of trekking, crashing quad bikes and being thrown around boats we decided to go for a much needed massage.
After our two adrenaline filled and wallet straining days the next day was spent relaxing in Cusco again before taking an overnight bus to Nasca where we planned to fly over the famous Nasca Lines.
