We woke up to rain. Today we were booked on a Barrier Reef snorkelling adventure. So we headed anyway to the dive office expecting our trip may be cancelled. We were surprised to find out our tour was not cancelled. Our tour guide Nancy told us that the rain was coastal and when we got to the outer reef the weather would be different and anyway "the fish were already wet".
We first went to Dunk Island to meet our boat and then we headed out to the outer reef. The trip to the boat from Mission Beach was rough, dad said that at one point his neck cracked and he was happy as it would save him $40 with the Chiropractor.
The trip out to the outer reef was "vomit" central. One German girl got sick 10 minutes into our trip … it was a long hour and a half for her. Olivier and Philippe were also sick on the trip but no one was as bad as the German girl.
We ended up at a reef called Eddi Reef. It was in the middle of nowhere, the reef formed a lagoon. It was a great place as there was shallow and deep reefs to explore. We saw a lot of fish and even a turtle. After diving all morning we had a big lunch and headed back into the water. This time we explored a deeper section of the reef. We had a great time. I think I loved it the most.
On the way home the boat was not as rocky so not many people were throwing up. Thank god! I sat up on the top deck with Dad. When we got to the dock Philippe fell trying to step onto the wharf and landed in the water. He was OK … we later had a good laugh about it. We got a chance to visit Dunk Island while we waited for our water taxi to Mission Beach.
Tonight we had dinner at Millers. We are now all stuffed.
It is day two at Mission Beach and we still have not seen any wild Cassowaries. We are still looking!
