Didier Moutia's Travels
Dad says everyday should start with a swim in a hot spring. Today this is exactly what we did, we headed to Katherine Hot Springs as soon as we got up, it was only 5 minutes away from our camp ground. We also caught up with another family we have become friends with at the hot springs as well. We could spend the whole day there but in the end we spent 2 hours at the springs before making a start to Litchfield Park.
While we were at the hot springs dad was interviewed by Channel 9. They asked him about the plans they have to make the hot springs better. Unfortunately we wont be in Katherine to see it. Dad was worried he looked like a hobo on TV as he has not shaved in days.
Back on the road again stopping at weird towns on the way to Litchfield. First stop was Pine Creek. This town has a bunch of historic buildings and a cool resort which was shaped like one of the Ghan trains. Another town we came across had a petrol bowser which was labelled "Jack Daniels", dad was excited to see it, but he was not sure what it pumped in the end. Petrol, Diesel or Jack Daniels?
The town of Adelaide River was cool. It has a railway museum, a bit like the one in Alice Springs. Not only does the museum have old trains but also lots of exhibits on WWII. This place was very different to our next stop which was the Batchelor Butterfly Farm. This place is weird! We had lunch which was just OK and then went and visited the Butterfly house. Mum and dad spent ages trying to photograph this huge green butterfly but it would not fly anywhere which was easy to get to. In the end they gave up. We all agreed when we left that we would not recommend the Butterfly Farm. It should also be child abuse to make your kids put their faces in the butterfly picture like dad made us do.
As we entered Litchfield Park we came across the Termite Mound of Cathedral Termites. This mound is huge!!! The termites are pretty smart, the mounds face north so they get sunlight in the morning but during the middle of the day, the hottest part of the day the mound does not face the sun. Termites are pretty clever.
We arrived at our campsite, Litchfield Safari Park. Dad calls it 'rustic' which we all know means the place is pretty rubbish. There is at least a small pool. The toilet and shower block is full of cobb webs so we will be using our campers shower and toilet a lot over the next two days.
Tomorrow we will be exploring Litchfield Park.
