Didier Moutia's Travels
Bit of a sleep in this morning. We got up at 7:30 and soon went to Katherine Gorge. We took the two gorge tour. The boat tour is the best way to see the gorge. Definitely beats walking! The gorge was beautiful but my highlight of the tour was seeing two fresh water crocodiles. One crocodile was lying on the river bank. The other one mum actually saw and the tour boat turned around to look at it. The croc mum saw was sitting in shallow water just below a tree waiting for a bat to fall out and land in the water. The tour took two hours and was amazing.
We next went to the Katherine Museum. Dad explained how Katherine was bombed by the Japanese in WWII. Also in 1998 there was a huge flood in Katherine that covered the town. The photos of the flood and video were hard to believe. We also got to see a Tiger Moth owned and flown by the "Flying Doctor" … this is not the same as the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Next to the museum is the original overland telegraph station. The museum had a lot to see and do. I was happy it was air conditioned.
Next stop was Mimi Art Gallery. This is an aboriginal owned gallery. We bought a traditional Didgeridoo and a painting. The gallery manager was nice and gave each of us boys a piece of aboriginal art.
Before heading to the caravan park we stopped into the local St John Ambulance station and said hello to the officer in charge. It was good to see the St John vehicles and talk to the ambulance officers.
Of course tonight like most nights we finished the day swimming in the pool. We swam for a whole two hours. Tomorrow we hope to swim in the hot springs in the morning before we head to Litchfield Park.
