Smooth travels from Winnipeg to Quebec - all flights on time - luggage came with us. One wrinkle was a very chatty and "overly" friendly gentleman that sat beside me on plane from Wpg to Toronto. I had asked if he would switch seats with Gerry who was the row in front of us, and he said no - he preferred to sit beside me. I know his whole life story which includes 2 ex wives...and at one point he asked if he could come with us...I think he was serious. Geez.
Quick cab ride from the airport to our hotel - arrived at our hotel at 3:00ish - perfect check in timing! We are staying at the Hôtel Manoir de l'Esplanade located in Old Quebec on rue d'Auteil. A quaint old hotel built in 1845 with brick walls and hardwood floors. Cosy room for the three of us :)
Had a quick glass of wine, and ready to go out and about! Time to start our journey in Old Quebec. Quick walk down the street and we are on Rue Saint Jean - lots of shops and restaurants - quaint and trendy. Had a nice lunch in a little pub restaurant and carried on.
So much to take in - Notre Dame Basilica, Place D'arms - statue of Louis Champlain, historic buildings everywhere. Most impressive is the Chateau Frontenac - it is beautiful - and massive! Makes the Hotel Fort Garry look like a Days Inn.
Watched some excellent street performers, walked and shopped some more....and headed back to our hotel for the night.
A fabulous first day in this beautiful city. Tomorrow we are taking the hop on hop off bus to get our bearings and see where we want to spend our touring time.
