Left Akureyri to head back to Reykjavik for the last 2 days of our trip. Another beautiful drive through the country. Came upon the biggest rainbow I have ever seen - it glowed from a distance, and as we got closer, it looked like it touched the ground. Thought for sure I would see a unicorn too!
Back through the 6km tunnel on the #1 close to Reykjavik - kinda claustrophobic and smells like exhaust, but better than driving on the side of a cliff in my opinion ;)
Settled into our last apartment in Reykjavik - just off Laugavegur downtown. Time to do some serious shopping! Spent the afternoon enjoying the bustling shopping area, having yet another excellent cup of coffee and pastry. Bought some more rulapilsa (we are almost rulapilsad out!), some Icelandic chocolate treats and hardfish to take home. Walked around by the harbour and parliament building - seeing the sights down by the marina.
Our last apartment is a studio that sleeps 4 - VERY cosy! Brand new, all decorated with IKEA furniture - very european, simple and functional. Chris and Brett have new nicknames for Myles and I after sleeping in close quarters....Myles is Snorri....and I am Grindi (say it with an Icelandic accent) Earplugs are a necessity :)
