Left Dalvik and headed to Akureyri then drove out east to see Goðafoss, Mývatn and Hverir. Amazing how quickly the landscape changes from rolling hills with farmland to a majestic waterfall to a landscape of another planet. Goðafoss is my favorite waterfall in Iceland. It is in the middle of nowhere....you can see the mist rising as you approach, then a beautiful horseshoe shaped waterfall - breathtaking!
Hverir is a geothermal area where with boiling mudpools and steaming fumaroles that spew steam and sulfur. Totally reeks worse than worse than rotten eggs. Time for some mineral spa therapy at Myvatn - again in the middle of nowhere a beautiful mineral spa (mini Blue Lagoon). Me and the boys had a relaxing soak before heading back to Akureyri for some shopping.
Akureyri is a pretty little town in the north - 2nd largest city in Iceland. Quaint little shopping district - bought a few gifts then went for supper. The boys wanted to eat something different while they were Iceland, so Brett ordered whale, and Chris had horse meat. I know....pretty gross, sorry PETA. Myles and I had burgers.
Met up with Harpa, Oddny, Disa and Elin for coffee at Kaffe Limur. Nice to visit with women after spending most of my time with 3 men! Laura, Heather and Maggie joined us, then they came back to our B&B for one last visit before we each head separate ways. It was so nice to spend time with them in Iceland.
Chris and Brett went on their deep sea fishing adventure in Dalivk. They caught cod, pollock, and arctic catfish and red fish. We have a giant bag of fish to cook tonight!
