Well what a fun day we have had today,we left Katherine this morning and about 20kms out we ran over a dead kangaroo which was on our side of the road(we had no choise as there was a car coming the other way) and we thought at the time yuk.We had to stop for gas at Mataranka about 60kms down the road so Bruce thought he would look under the car and see if the roo had done any damage.
Apart from lots of fur and blood and guts he noticed that one of the tyres on the van had a huge bulge in it so we pulled into a layby across the road and changed the tyre, all good and we were counting our lucky blessings that it hadn't blown. We decided to stop at Daly Waters for the night so after we had set up camp Bruce decided to give the car and the van a good look over,Well fun and games the other van tyre had a big bulge in it too,and as luck would have it we were at the only roadhouse for hundreds of miles that had anything resembling a workshop and believe it or not they had a new tyre that would fit the rim.
Half an hour later and $95 lighter we are right to go back on the road again and hope we dont have anymore incidents between here and Tennant Creek where we can get another spare tyre.At least we ar in the RACV if anything does go wrong and we have got the highest cover so they have to come out and fix it but it is so much less hassle if you can get these things sorted in towns.
We think that when we ran over the roo it hit the wall of the tyres and that was enough to cause them to bubble as Bruce had checked them before we left Darwin and they were fine.
We are of to the roadhouse for a couple of stiff drinks now,I think we deserved them.
