Well its been a month since the floods and about a month since my last update. Lots have happened in this part of the world in the past 40 orso days. We started with the floods in QLD which then made there way to NSW and Victoria. Whilst these were going on there was forest fires on the West Coast which ravaged quite a lot of the land in WA and a lot of homes were destroyed as well. After all that cleared up, the North East coast was hit by cyclone Yasi which tore through many of the towns we had stopped in at on our drive down from Cairns. It missed Brisbane thankfully but a lot of damage was done to QLD again. And its not just been Aus either. Christchurch was of course hit by a large earthquake which has so far destroyed the city and claimed over 100 lives which is of course not cool. It is of course terrible that these disasters are occurring and it is always sad when peoples livelihoods and most importantly lives are destroyed or taken away but I do find it hard to believe that in a part of the world where tropical storms occur regularly along with forest fires, and where there is a known fault line, how is it that we are now in the 21st century and these natural phenomenons can cause so much destruction. Maybe thats the reason, they are phenomonons. Still though, some lessons should surely have been learned from past experience and if not then they must be learnt now. Anyway enough about this and more about me, that is why you read this after all. Well we three (wise men) havent been up to much at all really. There has been one trip to the beach for Australia day which despite the number of Austalians present (everybody gets the day off) was actually a pretty good day. BBQ on the beach, more like what I expected of Australia. Work was shut for about 2 weeks due to the flood waters but I have been back a while now and am starting to get a good amount of hours which will hopefully provide the money required to have a great time in S. America. I was constantly looking for other work during that period and despite not getting a couple of jobs that I applied for I have now got a job coaching 4-6 year olds around Brisbane. I am due to start this week hopefully and am pretty excited about it. I had a practise session on Saturday and loved it. I get to mess about and act like a dafty, so pretty much just like myself but get paid for it. It should tie in with the bar job as well which is ace. I have also started training with a local team to try and get fit and just to get back into football. They have a couple of teams, one very good and one average. Think I will stick with the average team for just now, couldnt handle some aussie running rings round me just yet. I am also helping them with coahcing some of their youth teams and was at the under 10 trials on Saturday helping select boys. Was great, its exactly what I would like to do when I come home. I met a fellow Jambo there as well who is a top bloke and think we will get on pretty well. In fact he is such a top bloke that just today he has given Davy a job labouring on a construction site. How good is that? Depending on the money I might be asking for him to hook me up as well. Mike and I are also playing 5 a sides with Grant on a Sunday afternoon as well as looking after his daughter Hazel most Thursdays. Things are pretty good at the moment. Would like to do some more fun stuff but earning must take priority and the fun stuff can come after we have made enough cash.
P.S extremely sad news to hear about Gordon Braid. Thoughts go to Auntie Wilma and Uuncle Robin.
PP.S there are no pics to go with this album as I havent taken any good ones recently.
