Fraser Island.
Incredible. All I can say is you got to go there and take your own 4X4 on and you will have the most fun in your life. Even with the crap weather we had the island is gorgeous in every way imaginable and driving up down and round the sand dunes not forgetting doing 100Km down a beach with cars flying towards you is the best driving experience you can have. We were on the island for 4 days and I could easily have spent a fortnight there. Lake McKenzie is picture perfect with sand whiter than that on Whitehaven beach and the tranquil water doesn't even lap the shore, it appears to just rest on it. It was here that we saw the 1st Dingo. They look just like a domestic dog, a skinny alsatian with the black hairs missing from his coat. We saw a few more and one even tried to open our food box before running half way down the beach with my toothbrush bag. Lake Wabby is another cool place to go swim. To get to the Lake you first have to pass a massive sand-blow. Its like something from the Sahara (just a bit smaller - well a lot smaller). The water is deep and dark but nice and warm, like a heated pool at a hotel. It is full of fish as well and you feel them nibbling at your toes. The waters are meant to have anti-aging effects so when I come home looking younger than when I left you will know why. The rest of the lakes are not really for swimming in but Lake Allom is full of the most inquisitive turtles and the others are beautiful in their own right. Eli Creek is described as an Oasis and even in the pouring rain you can see why its described as such. (thats it in the pic - behind the muppet) The views from Indian Head and Waddy Point are incredible particularly down into the crystal sea below. I saw a number of sharks, some massive rays, sea turtles, two pods of dolphins and countless fish jumping from the waves. It was fantastic. Ill need to come back in the winter months to see the whales as well. I loved the place and cant wait to go back. I reckon we will probably go at least another twice.
