Fraser Island II
Grant had got his mum and dad a few nights stay on Fraser Island for their Christmas and seeing as the place is so cool, we decided that we would go along as well. It probably cost me a job in the city but thats another story. I wasnt missing a trip to Fraser just to start earning some good money. The Meys came along as well (thats Grants future in-laws) with Mike and his brother Dave along with Heli's brother Jack and his pal Steve coming along too. We were all booked on the 9am ferry to Kingfisher and so that meant leaving Brisbane at 4!! We made it up there although Mike made the mistake of suggesting there was a petrol station at River Heads which there isnt. This would mean some costly refuelling on the island, only $1.89 a litre. After a slight altercation with some hillbillies over parking, we left the Kingfisher resort and helped Mike and Dave set up there camp at Central. After, Spike and I headed up the beach to the campsite at Waddy Point on the north of the island. On the way we stopped at Eli Creek. If it was an Oasis in the rain then in the sun, well you'll have to see it for yourself. It was choked with people as well, playing in the water or just floating down on lilo's, just like how I described it last time, the lazy rivers at waterparks. We just relaxed in the water, Dave had said they might come round but they didn't, their loss really. We then drove to the Maheno wreck and on to Indian Head where we saw some more rays and turtles as well as a load of birds nesting on the cliff face. Up to Waddy Point for a BBQ, it was class. On a quality island with my pal eating burgers with some nice beer, canny beat it. Also witnessed a sunset for only the second time since being in Australia. Was pretty stunning. The next day was absolutely gorgeous. Sun splitting the sky. We had a bath in the Champagne pools and then headed back down the island. Back up Indian head where we saw a group of 6 rays fishing. It was amazing, something I never thought I would see. They had the fish coralled in a ball and were picking them off at will. Also saw a sea eagle up close. On the way down we stopped at the wreck again and the Pinnacles for some pics. Its amazing how much nicer the sun makes things look. By the time we got to Lake McKenzie, Grant and the rest were just leaving. We had hoped to spend the day with them but just got caught up. The beach was still packed though and the lake looked incredible in the afternoon light. It was gorgeous to go swimming in as well and everything was topped off by the can of Tennents that Eileen had brought over. It was like nectar. We stayed the night at Central with the Meys. It was an amazing day, just class. Unfortunately our last day was a washout. It rained the entire day, tropical thunderstorm as well. All we could do was go for a swim in the pool at the resort and sit in the hot tub. Bit of an anti climax but the fun that we had on the first two days more than made up for it. Fraser is brilliant, love it. Think were going to have to take Davy there now that he has joined us on our travels.
