Adventures of a Global Wanderer
This morning I would be taking the 4hr bus from Bergen to Stavanger and hoping to shake off this dreaded rain by moving to a new city. I had already bought the ticket online beforehand for 440K ($88).
Stavanger is not on the tourist route and not many people go there but I figured why not see another coastal town. I know of it as the ferries from the UK come here and originally I had planned to fly here from the UK on Ryannair before heading up to Bergen when I was planning this a few years back.
There also used to be a ferry that ran from Stavanger to Bergen but now you have to take the bus. It didn't work out that bad as you have to use a combination of two ferries as well as the bus so you get to see ships, fjords, islands, mountain tunnels, and coastal highway.
I got to the station early at 8am for the 9am bus and was able to get the back row to sleep. The bus filled to almost capacity.
After an hours drive the first ferry was for 45 mins. It was rainy and dreary so couldn't go on deck much. You must be back in your seat on the bus prior to docking, they do not wait around for stragglers when unloading vehicles.
After driving along the coastline and more tunnels the second ferry was quicker at only 25 mins. The sky was also starting to clear now the more south we went.
Finally on arrival in Stavanger we had clear blue skies. I hoped my luck would hold and the rain wouldn't follow me south from Bergen.
