Adventures of a Global Wanderer
This morning I would be leaving Penang Island, taking a ferry back to the mainland to take a bus north to Alor Setar, to eventually take another ferry to Langkawi Island on the Thai border (see map next entry). I left the hostel at 8am and walked to the port
The ferry across was only 20 mins and was free. The people coming the opposite way were paying. From the ferry you could see Penangs small floating village as we left the port
Across the river crossing was a clear view of Penangs iconic river crossing bridge that has been built in recent years.
The sea lanes were busy with commercial traffic. There was a nice sea breeze and I didn't notice I had forgot my fan that I had brought with me from Korea to keep me cool
On arrival there were fishing boats docked in low tide
The ferry and bus terminal are all connected. They were boarding buses to Kuala Lumpur but I wanted a local bus to take me to the Nine Emperor Gods Temple
After asking several buses the bus arrived and bus fare was 1.40Rm (.45 cents). The driver told me where to get off before a turning and to walk straight for 10 minutes
This was a Chinese neighbourhood with a long street filled with restaurant seating or auto garages so no convenience stores to buy a drink. Eventually I made it to the temple and more Chinese tourists had come here in their own van
The temple was nice but nothing too spectacular having been to so many temples in Taiwan already. It did have nine tablets to represent the nine gods.
I had to wait a long while for the return bus. When it came it was the same driver that had brought me so on his return trip.
This temple was a long detour and it was almost noon when I returned to the ferry terminal so perhaps it wasnt worth going when on a tight day schedule
