Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Having made an unnecessary detour to the Nine Emperor Gods Temple I bought a ticket for the 12pm bus to Alor Setar. Fortunately they run every 30 mins and weren't sold out due to the holiday period. From Alor Setar I was to take a local bus to the port then a ferry to Langkawi Island (see map above)
Ticket price was 10.90Rm ($3.75). When the bus came its like what I suspect boarding a bus in India would be like. It was total mayhem. I was nearly smashed into the door frame while my backpack was almost ripped off from behind
Fortunately the back of the bus had single seating and I was able to doze for part of the 90min trip.
We arrived at 2pm and there was no information counter on where to take the local bus and places seemed shut again for the holiday.
I saw a local fried chicken restaurant and I was excited to try a local one that was not KFC. They had nice choices but told me there was no fried chicken today and only burgers.
So I got a burger set for 7.90Rm ($2.75). At least they had hanging benches suspended from the ceiling which was nice, but will also give motion sickness after a long bus ride.
