Adventures of a Global Wanderer
I had a few hours before my flight so I wanted to try to head to the floating village although I was low on local currency so didn't want to spend too much on boat rides and needed to save money for the airport bus
Some locals were taking a boat from the river market so I thought it would be safer to get on with them then to try to get one myself and pay tourist prices.
The boat ride was $2BND ($1.60). He offered to take me all around for $30BND ($25) but I didn't have that much cash so wanted to just walk
There is a visitors centre with a tower you can go up for a span view of the village. In the distance I could see a small local mosque I wanted to visit
I tried following the walkways but they kept bending, did not go in a straight path, and were sometimes dead ends leading into peoples homes
Under the planks you could see cable wires and pipes running to bring the homes all the modern amenities.
Some of the planks were very rickety and it did not feel safe walking on them . Frustrated that the planks kept taking me round in circles and they didn't feel safe the deeper I went in I tried to find my way out.
I made my way back to a dock area where I waved a boat to take me back. He charged $1BND ($.80) to take me straight across.
Back on the mainland I wanted to take pics of the village but so many boats came and started circling by me like sharks so I had to keep telling them I don't want a boat ride.
I also saw others taking groceries or furniture across. After some final city pics I went to the bus terminal to hopefully find an airport bus as there wasn't one when I arrived.
