The chickens started making a noise at 5:30 and an early jog through the tiny town of Vinales again makes realise how much I love seeing a town/city waking up. From backpackers crawling out of the casas to catch their taxis or buses to locals going about their daily routine. I'm actually surprised at the movement. A quick (cold) shower and after breakfast of a nice tortilla and fruit our guide arrives at 8:30 and we're off to explore some of the nature Vinales has to offer.
With Inge on horseback and the rest of us on foot we start our trek past tobacco houses, plantations of tobacco, black beans and maize. The maize planted between the beans to protect the beans from the heat and rain. We walk to a beautiful viewpoint, then off to a cave after which we reach the cigar making demonstration. Very grateful for Jeneen's Spanish skills since everything in Spanish! We smoke our first cigar with the tip dipped in honey - an 'organic' one at that - meaning a locally made one without any preservatives or nicotine.
Back to the car and I have my first driving on the wrong side of the road experience when driving back to the casa. A nice long nap, dinner at the casa and we're ready for the music house with high hopes of learning how to salsa and good cocktails.
