We've finally crossed the border into NT, our third state for the trip.
Had a bush camp after we left Lawn Hill, then drove on to Borroloola to get supplies. This is the town where Doctor Jen did her doctoring earlier in the year, and it was an interesting place to say the least. Our first experience of "The Loo" was seeing a hobbled horse cross the road in front of us, with leather straps around his front legs joined by a chain. Apparently this was to stop him running away. Hmm...
Got into the town and did some shopping, running into Andrew and Caroline in the supermarket, our paths have crossed again! Did our shopping, during which we met the local butcher, who was a Bra Boy. But of course, a Bra Boy in Borroloola! A natural place to find one... This town was getting more interesting by the minute.
After bypassing the pub that had no beer, we left town and headed for a station called Lorella Springs, we couldn't wait to get back off the tar. Unfortunately we got our wish, travelling on some pretty hairy dirt roads, but we made it to Lorella in one piece. Set up camp next to Andrew & Caroline, and the cook-offs resumed with gusto.
Spent 3 days on this beautiful property, it is 1 million hectares, with thermal springs, natural waterslides down rocks, magnificent vistas, billabongs, and BARRAMUNDI. That's right folks, we finally found one. Lee, Lea & Andrew were flicking lures in a few billabongs, the first two weren't much joy, but the third saw Andrew have a near-miss, and Lee hook a beauty. It turned out to be just legal (55cm), and we enjoyed him for entree one night, and breakfast the next morning.
Lea made her first cake in a camp oven on our last night here, as part of a 4 course extravaganza we shared with Andrew and Caroline. We were parting ways again with A & C heading west, while we will head for Darwin.
Sadly, it was time to hit the road again, though we easily could've stayed for another week at Lorella Springs.
