Deborahs journey
Left Adelaide early on Wednesday and drove through the wine producing area of the Clare Valley towards the Flinders National Park. the roads started to get flatter and straighter and the landscape changed, it become much flatter, drier and more dirt! The first stop was Alligator gorge. i walked through here. we stopped to view some rock art in the caves. this was the first time i had seen aboriginal rock art and was really interesting too see. We stayed overnight in Parachilna. this is a small village with about 10 inhabitants, despite this there is a nice pub which we went to. For dinner we had an Aussie Bbq, including kangaroo steak, emu burgers, and camel sausages. Roo is like beef steak but with a game taste the others didnt really taste of anything.
the next day we drove along a 4wd track through parachilna gorge, (saw some yellow footed rock wallabies) to Wilpena Pound. (see pic) I chose to do the walk that goes along the 'river' into the pound. From here there was a climb up to a lookout to view the rest of Wilpena pound. the views where really good.
in the afternoon we drove to out next camp which was a cattle station just outside the pound. we had the afternoon to ourselves and were able to walk around the station as it was still in the NP. saw some kangaroos.
The next day we were up really early to drive to Coober Pedy.
