We landed in New Orleans at 7pm and caught a taxi straight to our hostel. The hostel was originally a house and was very cosy with all its tiny rooms and festive decorations. After checking-in we walked down the road to a restaurant that the receptionist recommended; The Flying Burrito. Of course we both had to have a burrito, which were both huge and delicious :-)
We spent our first day walking around the lively and colourful French Quarter. The main square was very pretty with lots of Christmas decorations, Christmas trees and a huge white cathedral at one end. A small band was playing outside the cathedral with loud, jazzy tunes coming from the different types of brass instruments. We walked along the narrow cobbled streets, admiring the architecture and stopping to look in at the different shops and bars. We made it to Bourbon Street, which was full of loud, lively bars and clubs. We walked the length of the street before looping back around to the French market and wandered around the different stalls. Afterwards we walked out to the Mississippi and enjoyed the view. That evening we went out to Bourbon Street and Frenchman street and found some great bars with live jazz bands and singers - fantastic!
We spent the next couple of days walking around the local area, shopping for souvenirs and enjoying the New Orleans music and artwork.
On the 1st of December we packed up our bags and bordered a plane to Miami!
