Deaf Guyana
Hey from Santa Mission! (not really, am at home in GT!)
Went to Amerindian Village with all the VSO Volunteers to experience the real culture of Guyana and Amerindian people. It was great day out for us to go to village in middle of the forest after long boat ride and sore bum at the end! The place is called Santa Mission and it is host by Amerindian people who are living outside Georgetown and they are the orginial people of Guyana who lives in Guyana for Centuries. It is also a Amerindian Hertiage month which everything celebrate for Amerindian people and to raise money to support the lifestyle of many Amerindian people who are poor and struggling to meet the end.
We left half 6 in the morning to catch boat and arrived there at 9. I was bit disappointed to be honest because they are not showing their real culture of Amerindian as most of them are wearing Jeans!! they have been up to date with fashion and technology too as they got computer and speakers for music!! eh how nice but still make most of the day looking around the village and visit some homes, buying their culture food which it is Labba (Spiders), Tree Worms, etc.. did try Labba but not tree worms cos it look horrible.. maybe try it next time!! :D
The weather is boiling hot and i had to cover most of the time and apllied the sun cream loasd of time but Still got sun burned on my neck.. show how hot it is!! been swimming in the black water river and it was nice and cool, until time to go back to GT and i had great day at the village and do learn some about the Amerindian culture in some way, as they are keeping up with tech and fashion!! lol
The photos are in the album and i am sure that most of u have seen it.. just letting ya know!! :D
Cheers and missing ya all
