Deaf Guyana
Hello everyone,
I am so sorry that i didnt update the website as been really busy with work and I have started work a week ago, finally i know!! Long time to wait before I started the work! I really enjoyed the job and it is hard work as been sweating every minute of the work due to hot weather and the kids are demanding!! But it is a rewarding job to see the kids enjoying the sports! :D
I went to New Amsterdam school with Ashton for 3 days on wednesday to Friday, squeezing Corentyne CBR on Thursday. It was great trip and we taught some literacy on wednesday which we taught English and Maths to 2 classes. I taught Maths to one class, Ashton taught English to another class. THe kids love it and we enjoying it too.
On Thursday we went to CBR unit nearby to do some teaching there and i did some sport activities there too. In the evening, we went to one of the Church which it is most amazing thing happened to us so far because they are holding a sign language class for one deaf boy. All of his friends, families and others who want to learn sign came to the church, it was sooo amazing to see them so keen to learn sign language. There was few tears shed around when they told the stories about the sign language class being set up for the deaf boy. It was moving and emotional moment. I was so glad that they did something amazing for the deaf community.
I am hoping to see it happening around in Guyana in near future. It was great to have the sign language classes being set up in Guyana, there are few around GT and in New Amsterdam.
On Friday, We went back to New Amsterdam to visit the school again but this time, will be teaching Sports activities to the kids. I taught them all day, taking 3 different classes in turns to learn sports and it was fun despite of hot weather bearing down on our backs but we enjoyed it. In the Afternoon, we did some Drama which Ashton took the class and it was good experience and the kids love it! :D
Then the weekend came, we went to Janis house who is the VSO Volunteer living in Region 6, around an hour away from New Amsterdam. we have been staying there for past 2 nites. We have decided to stay there for the wkd because we having so much fun there. She lives in good place where they have tennis court, beach and swimming pool nearby. Also at the same time, the other 4 volunteers from different organisaiton are visiting there too so would be great to meet them and enjoy the weekend together to get known better.
We sure had so much fun and we all visit the beach for a swim, play cricket and in the evening we sat together around the fire and chatted. I really enjoyed the weekend and got close with them as they are great bunch of people. I hope to see them again soon.
Then it is time to go back to GT and to work! I will go to David Rose School on Monday and work with kids at sports activities!
It is all from me and i will up date to u all soon!
