Our time here at Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary is going so fast!!! We are really enjoying it and getting to see so much of the native wildlife, some of which is even endangered. Today was supposed to be our final day here but we have decided to ask to stay another week. Our travel agent had to change the dates of our tour of Sydney and therefore we gained a free week, so where better to stay for the extra week!
We are doing different things each day, but our morning routine of feeding the animals remains the same and then after lunch we help out with whatever is needed. Sometimes this will be weeding, painting, sorting the rubbish/recycling, helping with school groups and general duties., but everyday is different.
Tonight when we walked back to our cabin after dinner, Dan heard rustling somewhere nearby, this isn't uncommon as there are so many noturnal animals around and wallibies like it around the cabins. The night before we had seen and heard a female koala in a tree so we shone the torch at the same tree and she was climbing down! We held the torch on her and she continued to move down towards the ground, then she stopped and jumped onto another tree before continuing down once again. Once on the ground she hid in a bush. As we didn't want to stress her out we decided to leave her alone, but just then she popped her head out of the bush. We put the torch back on her and just looked straight at us and walked towards us! Very slowly she waddled towards and past us without being fased that we were there at all!!!! We couldn't believe it!!! Was definately the best expereince of Oz so far!
