Our Year of Adventure
David made an extra large pot of coffee, there was a lot of sorting out to do so may as well do it over a mug or two of Honduras' finest. OK, maybe the rum is Honduras' finest but we needed a clear head to sort out the invoices and to work on our future plans. We've been told by many people that the closer we get to Costa Rica, the more insistent, the border immigration officials are, that you have to have onward travel confirmed to 'leave' their country before you even get in. That means we need to be thinking about where we will be in June and July when we only just know where we will be next weekend!!
The sea had calmed down overnight, the clouds had cleared and it looked like the perfect day to be out on a boat...so that's what we did. Maria missed out on snorkeling yesterday and David is always keen to get in the water, even if it's just on the surface with a snorkel. The boat went to the 'The Lighthouse', a site we hadn't been to before, and tied up in a big sandy patch surrounded by coral. Visibility was really good and with the sun reflecting off the sand, it was really bright. The coral was not so colourful here, it's like 'sepia', shades of brown but the variety of hard and soft corals certainly makes up for the lack of colour. There were a good variety of fish and some very brightly coloured parrotfish. A huge grouper lurked behind a little ledge. The deep blue beyond the reef face was just on the edge of visibility but nothing exciting came past.
Back at Casa del Sol, it was time to pack our stuff for the morning departure to the airport. Packing finished, we headed down to Cannibal Cafe, the Mexican, for a final meal in Roatán. Maria went for the Lion Fish tacos, doing her bit for local reef conservation and David tried the Big Kahuna Burrito. The cafe does a challenge that if you can eat three of their big burritos in one hour then they are free. Quite a few people have successfully managed the feat but one was more than sufficient for David.
