Well when we made it to Chiang Rai after a windy bus journey which started at 5.30 in the morning and ended at around 11am; we went so impressed. But after settling into a nice guesthouse with a lovely garden the place started to seem nicer alreay. We spent the rest of the day chilling out, having a coffee in a local cafe, reading back at the guest house in the sun. Then we ate at the local night market, we both had a waterfish for tea mine was cooked in salt and David's in a sweet and sour sauce they were delicious! and only cost 2 pounds!
The next day was rather wet to say the least, we woke up to rain and after breakfast headed to a little department store in search of a mosiquto net for when we go to Laos. As we were in the store the rain got heavier, so heavy that the streets were starting to flood. As we watched from the safety of the store the water level started covering mopeds exhusts, of which the store workers we franatically rushing out trying to get them on to higher ground. There was also cockroaches running about trying to get away from the water. As the cars drove past the road they send off waves which the store workers were desperately trying to stop from getting into the store. The store was our shetter for a while and provided much entertainment watching everyone out side wading in the water and people trying to save mopeds or simply people riding somehow on their bicycles through the water. The next stop was an internet cafe for a while until we ended up having to walk through the water a bit to get to the guest house.
All in all Chiang Rai was a rather wet experience and unforunately due to the rain we never made it to the white temple outside the city which I had wanted to see.
