Off to Swakopmund, a small town on the coast - yay civilisation and a proper bed for 2 whole nights!
On the way we visit Walvis Bay - although there is not much there a huge flamingo flock have a home on the beach and even though the morning was dull was amazing to see 3 different species of the birds togther. Dave also found a huge pink jellyfish washed up on the beach.
Swakopmund is the biggest town for miles and altough small was nice to spend a few days away from the bush. There is a huge continental influence witrh buildings and food taking influence from Germany.
We found a nice beach bar that eveing - Meridith and I decided that this was a far better idea than the bush camp the night before with a hole in the ground for a loo and after a large seafood platter (on the coast it was bound to be good!) for dinner we heading the next day to try Sandboarding which was awesome fun and had stunning views. Suprisingly I was quite good for my first time on a board, Dave fouynd his heal edge difficult and Danny after a few really good runs took a huge fall down the dune (he was absolutely fine!) Only downside was the lack of lifts for environmental reasons and we had to climb back up the dune on foot and badly burning!
Sadly leaving the room behind we headed up the coast to a seal colony at Cape Cross, although only natural there were many dead seal pups on the beach which was a very sad sight.
Finally we reached our bushcamp for the evening, Spitzkoppe wherer ancient bushmen left messages through paintings on huge rocks. Although they are fading now (after 4000 years its understandable) it was a great sight to see with a tribe man explaining the meanings.
Off to Etosha soon, hopefully to see lots of native animals :)
