A misty ride down to the sea. - 29th May 2012
The two nights in the cabin in Tenterfield paid off, Trish was able to get her lurgi under control and as there was misty rain on departure morning there was no wet pack up. It is finally time to leave the heights of the Great Dividing Range and head down to the coast.
The scenery was great, the rain was only intermittent and drizzly but my full concentration was on the road and the corners when towing the trailer down the mountain roads in the wet. After about 50km it flattened out a bit and the tension went out of the ride. Not that I have ever had any problems with the Classic Mini Tourer with its hydraulic disc brakes to assist.
After a short break in the town Casino, no idea where that name came from, we decided to head straight on to Byron Bay. Close to Byron Bay and approaching the exit from the Princess Highway there was a sign to say the exit was closed, time for a quick prayer to my little Goddess the GPS. Once again she didn't let me down and pointed out that there was a spot a couple of km ahead where we could legally do a U turn. "Praise be to the GPS". By this time our ribs were starting to stick to our backbones as it was past lunch time and we thought we would book in and then eat before putting the tent up.
After booking in and assessing the skies, with a clear patch and no rain, we decided to get straight into our 18th erection. We have been counting and recording our erections with biro marks on the inside of the tent since we started. Having just driven in the last tent peg the skies opened up and down came the rain so the two little "Intrepids" scurried inside to sit it out. The rain was short lived so we geared up in all the cold wet weather gear we had been using for some time now and headed out to check out the town. We were getting strange looks from all the rest of the people dressed in board shorts for the guys, skimpy little tops and shorts for the girls and us in winter clothes. Soon realize we were overdressed.
After consuming what I think was the best beef burger I have had for a long time we did the food shopping and returned to camp.
