Weather forecast for today was possible thunder storm. So much for that, it started to rain in the night and hasn't stopped since. Luckily most of the water is going around the tent. We have decided to stay another day and sit it out. The other Ulyssians camped next to us have decided to do the same so we are in the camp kitchen having a rest day. All the forecasts for tomorrow say it will be fine, here's hoping.
Yesterday we continued our looking around with a walking tour of the cemetery, and a tour of the Royal Flying Doctor base. The Broken Hill Cemetery is huge for a country town of 20,000 people (35,000 at its maximum) and has about 60,000 buried in it.
Trish here with her version of events now! Just a mention of a good walking tour around Broken Hill townsite the other day; a local lady was our tour guide. This almost 3 hour jaunt helped to make the old town come alive with lots of background stories. Our little guide lady's husband had been killed in the mine years ago sadly. Made the reality of the cost of mining come to life again.
Yesterday we also went to see Pro Hart's art gallery; very interesting fellow with a wide background of interests. We took a photo of his rather large unusual gravestone when we were at the town cemetary.
We managed to buy some more rocks, smaller this time, that represent this area; galena/silver ore, sphalerite/zinc ore, pink calcite etc. We have to be careful with the weight of what we can carry! Wish I could've found specimens like we saw in the geology musuem but I reckon those excellent rock specimens would be in private collections, not for sale!
