Our boat ride to Mexico took about 2 hours, via a place called San Pedro, a frustratingly long immigration process, we finally arrive in stinking hot chetumal.. Our boat is greeted by the army, so many machine guns in this country. All our bags are lined up and sniffer dogs go over them all. A painful process in the burning hot sun, then it's off to immigration, also outside in the hot sun. The line up takes ages, there's plenty if people keen to push in and then it's random button time again. Just like when we arrived in Mexico City there's a button the randomly generates a red or green light. Green u go through, red you get searched. Today we both get green!! Hooray. We decide to jump on the first air conditioned mini bus and head straight to Tulum!
3 hours later we are there and find a place with air conditioning, it's time we slept properly. We originally book in for 4 nights but whilst riding around we find there is a full moon party on Saturday so we decide to stay another night. Tulum is the place where quite a large Mayan settlement was and we visit the ruins, it's so hot!! But the ruins are cool. I found a guide to take me around the bay if Ascension, it's pretty much the best place to fly fish for a variety of highly prized sport fish. I lost a couple if tarpon and even had a chance at a couple of permit, however I come out empty handed. Luckily I manage a few bonefish. It's was a sketchy 50km ride out to the boat on a hired scooter at 5am and the ride back was even less fun due to the heat and all the 4wds on the road.. But a great day. Jess checked out some swimming holes during the day and we found a nice steak place for dinner. Saturday nights full moon party was awesome, lots of people from all over the world, before we know it, it's 5am and time for bed. Our bus leaves for cancun at 11.55 the next morning and that's gonna be a struggle!
