Oaxaca is incredibly different from what we have seen so far, the town is gorgeous, lots of cobblestone streets and tourism is a huge part of their economy so everyone makes sure the place is clean and safe and all that stuff. Heaps of great food and coffee and the people are super friendly. We tried a cooking class on Saturday morning with a guy named Oscar, he took us around the markts to get all our ingredients and then we cooked and then we ate, all pretty tasty really. We have developed a new love for worms, or rather the grub of a moth that hangs out with the agave plants they use to make mescal (decribed by one NY paper as tuquilas rougher country cousin). More on mescal later...however the worms, ground up and added to salt is fantatsic to dip your limes in with your drinks. Anyway, theres parades on everynight due to the kids graduating from school, theres markets everywhere and we are just eating and drinking our way through town.. Time to organise some excercise..
Sunday we planned for a quiet day as we had organised to start this huge mountain bike ride on monday morning. However, saturday night we met Jorge and Rodriguez, 2 mates who went to school together in Monterey in Nth Mexico and have started a mini brew pub herre in Oaxaca, the only one. We had a great night - their english is great and we organised to meet them for the world cup final on Sunday and Rodriguezs brothers place - a saloon on the north side of town. Rodriguez and his girlfriend Nicole hung out with us and we ended up in town with Tequilas cousin..
Still, we woke up alright in the morning just fine and its time to pedal.
