5 star resort with all the trimmings! The island is exactly what we thought it would be but hey, time to relax.. It's our last few days in Mexico. We are spending most of our time in the pool or the ocean. There's a swim up bar and 3 restaurants and a beach club where we can order anything pretty much and it's all included. We're getting fatter by the minute:( we organised a boat trip yesterday to see the whale sharks which were amazing! Today it's check out time...

Our boat ride to Mexico took about 2 hours, via a place called San Pedro, a frustratingly long immigration process, we finally arrive in stinking hot chetumal.. Our boat is greeted by the army, so many machine guns in this country. All our bags are lined up and sniffer dogs go over them all. A painful process in the burning hot sun, then it's off to immigration, also outside in the hot sun. The line up takes ages, there's plenty if people keen to push in and then...

Time to leave Mexico. Plane looks a bit dodgy but I'm sure the pilot is quite capable:) luckily this wasn't our plane.. Weirdly keeping old rotting planes at the airport is a thing over here. Our plane was fine, even if our seats did double as flotation devices in case of emergency. Our flights were fine, and after a few delays and a helpful dude from Seattle we are in a cab from Guatemala City to Antigua... Apparently Guatemala City is not the place to hang out,...

Todays ride is around 40km, its up and down and we left early, around 7 to try and beat the heat. We didnt beat the heat - but the ride wasnt too bad, a fair bit of sealed road today as we get closer to the bigger town of Puerto Escondido. On arrival we had our breaky (starving!!) we had omelletes and i had a big hot chocolate, theyre really into their chocolate and its awesome too. Well, it got even hotter today. As we cruise down the rewards for yesterdays uphill battle, the temperature continues to rise. We rode through 2 small villages but its really in the middle of nowhere now. Suprised at how green Mexico is. By the end of the 66km we stopped for lunch at a comedoria and had a tasty traditional Mexican feed.
