So here we are in the Quintana Roo town of Tulum. It is a fairly small place that is famous for its Maya ruins off the Caribbean coast.
We checked into a b&b called ´mamas house´ which is really nice, mama is very friendly and is looking after us well (they are doing us a bbq tomorrow night!)
Tulum is prone to power blackouts due to its slightly remote location. We went to a restaurant last night and during the meal out when all the power in the town. Almost straight away the staff appeared with candles for us and they all just carried on a normal, using a small torch to do the cooking! Looks like they are used to it here.
The next morning we headed off to Tulum ruins and the associated beach. We heard good things about the beach but was totally blown away by the beautiful clear blue caribbean water, amazing sand and the backdrop of palm trees, cliffs and an ancient Maya ruin ontop.
After some enjoyable Caribbean swimming we explored the ruins which were impressive, but its the view and surroundings that really stand out.
One further point of note : Daves travel beard is coming on slowly, as you can see it is working its way from each side and hopefully one day soon it will meet in the middle. But generally not much development for three weeks!
