Today we walked into Lanquin Village to attempt to procure a ride to a place called Semuc Champney. After some wandering around and some negitiations we got a lift in a pick up to our destination, on route we scrambled along narrow loose stone roads with steep cliff drops on the side (with not barriers of course) When we arrived we hiked up a steep hill to be rewarded with the amazing view as shown in the photo. After a 9 hour, terrifying bus ride, we finally arrived in Lanquin, a beautiful mountain village. Even for a Guatemalan driver, this guy was a psycho. No pedestrian was too old or young to incur his wrath - I think he would have beeped at a hesitant bambi crossing the road. So, after all the screeching tyres and narrow mountain roads, we were in need of a drink. Which was lucky, as drinking was the name of the game in Hostel Zephyr. The photo is of our cool swis...

So up we get from a night of no sleep and head into the Tikal national park. Tikal a famous Maya ruined city, another I hear you cry, well it is our 7th and maybe our last one? Tikal was settled around 700 BC (thats Before Cox) and is, well massive. In total something like 16sq.km with around 4000 structures. This included a kfc, Mcdonalds and Starbucks, which was impressive considering that it is so old (I think they called it mfc - Maya Fried Chicken) Due ...

´I have an idea´says Emily ´Lets get out our travel hammocks and camp at the Tikal ruins, that will be fun´ So off we go with a slightly reluctant Dave (probably an age thing) on an afternoon bus to the famous Maya ruin site of Tikal in northern Guatemala equipped with our hammocks, mosquito nets, sleeping bags and lots of insect spray. Our current location is the beautiful Island of FLores, in the northern region of Guatemala. This is a tiny island within a river system, a small access bridge is all that connects it to the mainland. Lots of nice buildings and loads of riverside bars and resturants, and of course lots of amazing sunsets!
