After a 9 hour, terrifying bus ride, we finally arrived in Lanquin, a beautiful mountain village. Even for a Guatemalan driver, this guy was a psycho. No pedestrian was too old or young to incur his wrath - I think he would have beeped at a hesitant bambi crossing the road. So, after all the screeching tyres and narrow mountain roads, we were in need of a drink. Which was lucky, as drinking was the name of the game in Hostel Zephyr.
The photo is of our cool swiss/guatemalan hybrid thatched shelter, which was stunning (have to look at the album to see the 360 degree views), but not so good in the rain. And rain it did. The thunder storm the first night was so spectacular that people were cheering the most amazing lightening forks as they struck the surrounding mountains. And of course the national beer, Gallo, was the perfect accompaniment to this.
