Day 37 - We opted for an early start to catch the train to Florence. To save the hassle of trying to drag our cases through the streets and up and down steps we hired a porter to take them. He had a home made purpose built trolley that easily carried the 4 suitcases and managed all the steps with ease. All we had to do was walk beside him and pay him 25 euros at the end. Money well spent. With one short water bus trip back to the railway station, we had plenty of time to catch the high speed train to Florence. A smooth 2 hour trip and we arrived about 11.30 with a short walk to pick up our hire car. The Mercedes station wagon we requested was not available and we were given a 5 door BMW hatch. This was a real challenge fitting 4 large cases plus 4 people into a much smaller vehicle. We got out of Florence ok for a 20km drive to our next stopover. The next 6 days to be spent in Villa Sant' Andrea, a very quiet villa set in the middle of acres of vineyards. As the villa is self contained, we were off to the local supermarket for supplies. This did prove to be a bit of a challenge considering we couldn't read the labels and you need to select, weigh and price your own vegies before going thru the checkout.
