Day 22 - A late night meant a late morning. Our run of great weather continues in Paris. Our "hop on hop off" tour started with a trip to the Notre Dame situated on an island in the Seine River call the Ile de la Cite. Even though the island is not very large, there are 9 connecting bridges to get to it. Just about every street in Paris that runs down to the Seine has a connecting bridge over the river at the end of it. Today being Sunday we found some of the retailers shut, but still a lot of pedestrian & vehicle traffic. Notre Dame had a long queue (free admission) but we managed to bypass this and got inside to a packed out Mass. The service was minutes from ending, so when a lot of the worshippers had left it gave us a bit of space to explore this rather large and interesting church. Before we had left however, another service had started. We left the Notre Dame for a stroll over the bridge and back along the river bank, to pick up the next bus towards the famous Champ Elysees. We walked the last few hundred metres of the famous avenue, passed a lot of busy retailers to the Arc de Triomphe. Because this massive building is in the centre of 5 lane roundabout, you can only safely access it by underground walkways. There are 12 streets that run off this roundabout, so if you get in the wrong lane, entering & exiting can be very tricky. A short ride from here and we were back at a great vantage point to view the Eiffel Tower. Picturesque gardens called the Jardins du Trocadera give you great photos of fountains in front of the tower, and separated by the Seine River. Another 20 minute ride saw us back close to our unit for a bit of a break before an early dinner after a day of many kms of walking.
